Weekly Release Notes - July 31, 2026

Release Focus

This release focused on trust. For filmmakers, the product now explains how Hi-Eight works before asking them to create an account. That matters because the platform asks creators to publish and sell their films directly; the entry experience needs to answer basic confidence questions before signup.

Creator monetization is clearer and more operationally ready. Stripe payout status, publish-fee waivers, Google Ads revenue handling, and creator promotion reporting now give the platform stronger support for real sales, advertising, and future creator payouts.

Viewer playback is more resilient, and Roku is closer to a consistent TV experience. Free-with-ads playback on consumer film detail pages now has a stronger fallback model, and the Roku app is more consistent across navigation, presentation, playback, and certification-sensitive behavior.

New Features

Filmmaker Explainer Flow

High-intent filmmaker entry points, including /filmmaker, /filmmaker_2, blog calls to action, and the welcome modal, now point interested creators toward the "How Hi-Eight works" explainer before account creation. This gives filmmakers a lower-friction next step and helps explain the marketplace before asking for commitment.

Improved How Hi-Eight Works Page

The /blog/014 explainer is now a more scannable walkthrough for prospective filmmakers. It explains the publishing path, access options, revenue expectations, and the one-time per-film publish fee in a clearer sequence.

Stripe Creator Payout Readiness

The creator account and payout setup experience now supports Stripe onboarding and payout-account status syncing. This helps the platform distinguish creators who are ready to receive funds from those who still need setup.

Google Ads Revenue Reconciliation

Google Ads revenue handling now supports weekly source tracking and pooled payout reconciliation for ad-supported viewing and creator revenue reporting. This makes ad revenue easier to explain and audit.

Free-With-Ads Preroll Fallback

Consumer film detail playback now supports a layered preroll model when a film offers Free with Ads. The platform can try internal filmmaker promotion trailers, web ad fallback, and catalog trailer fallback before starting the selected film, so playback is less dependent on a single ad source.

Improvements

Filmmaker Signup Context

Public filmmaker pages, blog calls to action, and first-visit welcome messaging now provide a softer path into the product through the filmmaker explainer page. The intent is to reduce the jump from interest directly into login and make the value of publishing on Hi-Eight easier to understand.

Creator Revenue And Promotion Clarity

Creator promotion purchase behavior and reporting are clearer in the Creator Promotions tab and creator analytics views. Admins can also waive publish fees in the admin publishing workflow. Together, these changes make creator-facing monetization workflows more practical for early platform use.

Roku App Experience

The Roku app is more consistent across home, search, library, film detail, settings, trailer playback, and free-with-ads playback. Navigation is clearer, focus behavior is more predictable, profile presentation is cleaner, and the playback screen stays focused on the video experience.

Certification Readiness

The Roku app package, launch flow, deep-link playback flow, content playback startup, screensaver behavior, and diagnostics output now better support certification review. This helps move the app closer to a clean review path.

Bug Fixes

Playback Reliability

Consumer film detail playback now handles unavailable or failing free-with-ads preroll sources more gracefully. Paid, rental, subscription, and private-code playback options remain separate from the ad-supported path.

Roku Navigation And Layout

Roku home, search, library, film detail, settings, and player screens now handle title bars, menu/profile visibility, row spacing, search focus, film detail layout, trailer playback, and playback overlays more consistently.

Safer Error Handling

Creator upload, creator analytics, checkout, and account workflows now handle more failures with clearer responses while better protecting sensitive account and payment information.

Operational Stability

Website startup, account profile loading, and social publishing workflows are more reliable, reducing interrupted sessions and incomplete actions.

Accessibility And UI Regression Issues

The contact page, registration page, creator film detail page, account and library pages, wishlist behavior, and consumer film detail pages now have stronger accessibility and visual regression coverage.
